- In Situ Oil Sands Summit 2011
OVER 25 SENIOR INDUSTRY EXPERTS INCLUDING
IN SITU OIL SANDS SUMMIT 2011
Examining Solutions For Maximizing Recovery And Driving Down The Cost & Steam Oil Ratio Of In Situ Oil Sands Production Projects
As E&P companies in Canada look to maximize production in the oil sands, In Situ methods of oil recovery increasingly become a primary focus, with many new projects set for commercialization in 2011 and existing projects increasing production. Major strides are being made in improving the cost-effectiveness of key in situ technologies such as SAGD and CSS as well as emerging methodologies such as extraction of oil from carbonate rocks, electro-thermal processes and the application of solvents.
The in situ oil sands industry is now at a stage where it has a unique set of challenges that it must overcome and there is a need for operators to come together to share technical solutions specific to in situ production.
The mission of the 2nd In Situ Oil Sands Summit 2011: Technology & Project Development Initiative will be to bring together the key in situ oil sands operators to share solutions for maximizing oil recovery, minimizing cost and driving down the Steam Oil Ratio for in situ production.
To do this, speakers will spend Day 1 providing in-depth studies into the optimal reservoir characterization techniques for determining productivity and practical case studies on how they have successfully reduced the SOR of their projects. Speakers will explain how best to understand the key geological parameters for in situ production and break down solutions for dealing with water, gas, lean zones and shales as well as overcoming the challenges of caprock integrity and reservoir simulation.
On Day 2, speakers will focus on the latest advances in production technology, explaining how new developments in SAGD technology as well as emerging methods such as electro-thermal processes, hybrid SAGD technologies and applying solvents are helping to drive down cost, improve SOR and maximize recovery. Finally, analysis will be provided on the optimal technologies for reducing carbon emissions to pre-empt regulatory requirements and novel strategies for securing the necessary equipment and workforce for large scale in situ projects.
Speakers at this Summit will be:
- Examining the most innovative reservoir characterization and monitoring techniques to optimize the oil production
- Determining the best practice methodologies for dealing with water, gas, lean zones and shales in the reservoir and overcoming the challenges of caprock integrity and reservoir simulation
- Benchmarking strategies for mitigating scaling and plugging issues and explaining the latest advances in sand control
- Introducing cutting edge SAGD technologies & evaluating the latest well design and well bore completion strategies
- Examining the results of various solvent trials and the future of the solvent assisted processes for in situ oil sands projects
- Explaining the most heat efficient methods for in situ to reduce the environmental impact including CO2 sequestration and electrical heating
- Analyzing advances in automation systems and asset management programs specific to in situ oil sands projects
- Sharing strategies for securing the human resources needed for large scale in situ oil sands projects

LEARNING BENEFITS
It is crucial for the commercial viability of the oil sands operators…
… that they understand how to maximize recovery, whilst minimizing the cost, SOR and environmental impact of their operations. To do this E&P companies need to understand the optimal reservoir characterization techniques for determining productivity and apply cost-effective technologies for maximizing production.
The 2nd In Situ Oil Sands Summit 2011: Technology & Project Development Initiative will be the first dedicated summit, providing 2 days specifically on and exclusively on in situ oil sands production, focusing on optimal reservoir characterization techniques and application of cost-effective production technologies. It is designed to provide a forum that caters to the individual need of in situ oil sands operators rather than oil sands mining companies or other heavy oil producers.
Speakers at the event will be looking at technical advances in:
RESERVOIR CHARACTERIZATION: Determining the most efficient ways to capture, analyze and monitor geological parameters of a reservoir, including solutions for dealing with water, gas, lean zones and shales as well as overcoming the challenges of cap rock integrity and reservoir simulation
RESERVOIR ENGINEERING: Providing practical solutions for successfully increasing the performance of a reservoir through mitigating scaling, erosion and sand issues
SAGD: Understanding the latest advances in technology that are having success in increasing the life cycle and productivity of SAGD, whilst reducing cost and SOR
SOR SOLVENTS: Examining what practical progress is being made in the use of solvents as a commercially viable solution for reducing SOR and improving cost-effective productivity
EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES: Analyzing the latest advances in emerging technologies such as the hybrid SAGD and electro-thermal processes as well as the progress being made in extracting oil from carbonate rocks
CARBON CAPTURE & STORAGE: Explaining how to reduce the carbon footprint of an in situ oil sands project using heat efficient ways to run the operation and applying carbon capture and storage technology
